The Reception Day
The entrance for Reception children is via a gate in the far corner of the playground (which will be clearly marked). This entrance is only used by Reception children allowing for a quieter, less daunting start to the day. A member of staff will open the gate at 8:45 when the school day begins. We are very happy for you to accompany your child into class and help them register and find their coat peg.
Members of the team are always on hand should you need a brief chat or help settling your child. However, it is a busy part of the day so should your query need more time, a meeting after school can always be arranged.
The children choose when they want to have a drink and eat their fruit, both of which are available throughout the day. Children only stop for lunch, meaning they have greater curriculum contact than any other year group. Fruit is provided by the ‘Fruits for Schools ‘scheme. The children are encouraged to have a piece of fruit each day; no other snacks are necessary.
Lunchtime for Reception is 11:45 - 1:00. Under the universal free school dinner scheme, we encourage all children to enjoy our freshly prepared school meals. Our friendly cook will happily try and accommodate any dietary requirements so, if you have any concerns, please speak to the class teacher in the first instance. Lunchtime is a very important part of the school day. Children are encouraged to be independent, try new food, use a knife and a fork and enjoy sociable chats around the table.
The school day for Reception children ends at 3.10. Parents usually gather on the playground where a member of staff will open the gate.
Please ensure all of your child’s belongings are clearly marked with their full name. Many items of uniform are mislaid or lost due to missing names.
We do not encourage children to bring in toys from home as they may easily be damaged or lost. We may however, from time to time, ask for items to be brought in to support the learning interests in the class. You will be notified of these special occasions.
