Inclusion, Diversity and Challenging Prejudice

Young people need the skills to successfully navigate and thrive in a diverse society. We aim to help shift perceptions, attitudes and behaviours in a more positive direction.

Inclusive Education

Our school strives to provide a rich education that includes all children and supports them to learn, whoever they are and whatever their abilities or needs. This means making sure that our teaching, as well the learning curriculum, the school buildings, the classrooms, the outside areas and the toilets are appropriate for all children. Inclusive education means all children learn together in the same school and that we respond to the needs of each individual child.

Embracing Diversity

Inclusion in schools promotes the celebration of diversity. We know that every child brings a unique set of experiences, perspectives and abilities to the school. By both promoting and embracing diversity, we want our school to create a rich tapestry of backgrounds, cultures and talents. We want children learn to appreciate differences, broaden their horizons and develop a healthy global mindset. Inclusivity helps foster sense of unity and respect among peers. We want to equip children with the language to explore challenging questions and not just learn facts about, for example, religious beliefs, but what it is like to live with them.

Challenging Prejudice

We actively promote social and emotional development alongside academic growth. By fostering an inclusive environment, children learn essential life skills such as empathy, respect and teamwork. The classroom provides opportunities for children to interact with peers from various backgrounds, fostering friendships and breaking down stereotypes. When children feel accepted and valued for who they are, their self-esteem and confidence grow. Inclusive schools also equip children with the tools to navigate and appreciate the diversity they will encounter in their lives. By exposing the children to diverse perspectives, experiences and challenges, we aim to nurture active citizens who are equipped to challenge biases, discrimination and prejudice in their lives.

This ethos is underpinned by the school's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, Behaviour Policy and PSHE Policy.
